Pre-School Teachers Diploma award ceremony at Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna

The Pre-School Teacher's Training certificate awarding ceremony was held on October 07, 2011 at Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna. This was another project headed by LEADS in partnership with the Bureau of Commissioner General Rehabilitation. About 30 Rehabilitees who were released for re-integration were selected from among 47 aspirants and given an opportunity to be part of the Pre-School Teachers Training as a process of re-integration and re-insertion to the community. The training organized and coordinated by LEADS is being conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Education collaboration with Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation.

The Certificate awarding ceremony of this course was graced by District Secretary Jaffna, Ms Emelda Sukumar, Commissioner General Rehabilitation Major General Chandana Rajaguru, , Other invitees included, Dr. Alex Thevaranjan ( Associate Professor, Syracuse University, NY), Mr.Sathish Kumar ( Senior Consultant, Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms), Mr.Ilaangovan ( Secretary, Ministry of Education Northern Province), Mrs Jeya Thambiah ( Asst. Director Early Childhood, Ministry of Education, Northern Province),Mr.Roshan Mendis ( Executive Director, LEADS) and Mr.Dave Navindra ( Acting Executive Director, LEADS) were present at the occasion.

A well prepared 90 day training programme with the additional practical training will earn a Diploma Certificate in the Pre-School Teachers Training. Residential Course was conducted at Protective Accommodation and Rehabilitation Centre, Poonthottam, Vavuniya. CGR thank the Syracuse for Sri Lanka headed by Dr. Alex Thevaranjan for initiating and supporting this project. "We are thankful to LEADS as this programme is particularly significant as it is the first of its kind worldwide where released rehabilitees have returned to their rehabilitation centre of their own free will for such an exercise" said Major General Rajaguru.

Speaking at the Ceremony Mr. Roshan Mendis, Executive Director of LEADS says " Our Goal is not just to train Pre-School Teachers but also to make this programme a meaningful experience for each one of the trainees - To learn, grow in knowledge and experience and give back to their community in a productive and life changing way, paving the way for a bright future for the children in these communities".
