Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform, Hon.Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Visits Welikanda & Kandakadu PARCs in the Eastern Province

Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform, Hon.Chandrasiri Gajadeera accompanied by Ministry Officials visited the Welikanda & Kandakadu PARCs on November 4, 2011. Ex- combatants presently under going rehabilitation accorded the visiting dignitaries a warm traditional Hindu welcome.

Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Chandana Rajaguru accompanied the distinguished visitors and briefed them on the ongoing rehabilitation activities. Facilities provided at the Centres include Educational and Vocational Training, instruction in Music, Arts & Crafts as well as opportunities for participation in Sports & Recreational activities.

Appropriate arrangements are also in place for inmates to undertake religious observances in accordance with their respective faith.

Hon Minister expressed his satisfaction and approval following his observation of the comprehensive rehabilitation program being implemented. He also addressed the Ex-Combatants undergoing rehabilitation programme and listened to their grievances.

The Hon. Minister was invited to plant a mango tree in each centre, to mark his visit to the two PARC centres.

CGR thanked Brigadier K.W.Y.Jayathilake, Coordinating officer of Rehabilitation (East) and all members of the staff for their dedicated service and complimented them for the high standard of maintenance of the physical environment. He also paid tribute to the staff for their kind treatment of the inmates with warmth and care which contributed to their high morale and good cheer and for providing amenities to keep them productively engaged.
