National Tree Planting day - 2011

As part of the annual National Tree Planting commemorated island-wide on November 15th, the Bureau of the Commissioner General Rehabilitation actively organized this year Tree planting ceremonies at various Rehabilitation Centres contributing to the greening the environment.

Vauniya Region Rehabilitation Coordination Office organized the planting of 500 trees at Maradamadu, Pampeduma and Punttotam while the Eastern Region Rehabilitation Coordination Office organized the planting of 500 trees each at the Senapura and Kandkadu Centres.

The tree saplings for planting were obtained from the Mahaweli Authority and included fruit trees such as Anona (soursap), Mango, Jack, Divul as well as indigenous trees such as Kumbuk known for their high quality of timber. The planting was undertaken under the supervision of the respective Coordination Officers under the guidance of Major General Chandana Rajaguru, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation.
