Ceremony For Re-Integration And Disbursement Of Loans For Self Employment

Re-integration of a further group of ex-combatants who had completed the rehabilitation programme in accordance with Court Order and providing them with loans for self employment was held at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna on December 11 2011. The ceremony for the re-integration was presided by the Minister of Rehabiltation and Prison Reform Hon. Chandrasiri Gajadeera.

At the re-integration ceremony 46 ex-combatants were reunited with their families. Loans were disbursed by the Hon. Ministers and other guests among 76 persons to enable them to start self employment projects.

The ceremony commenced at 2:00 p.m. The musical group “Friends of Peace” consisting of ex-combatants undergoing rehabilitation entertained the gathering to a musical performance while school children from several schools in the area gave dance performances.

The ceremony was to be presided over by the Minister of Economic Development Hon. Basil Rajapaksa who unfortunately could be present due to unforeseen circumstances. The distinguished guests at the event included the Jaffna District Members of Parliament Hon. Murugesu Chadrakumar and Hon. Silvesteen , the Secretary of the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform Mr. A. Dissanayake the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Chandana Rajaguru Jaffna District Secretary, Ms. Imelda Sukumar Chairman of the Rehabilitation Authority E.A. Samarasinghe, Senior Security and Government Officials of the region as well a large gathering of local invitees.

Prior to this event the renovation of Pullikuda Village was inaugurated. The Commissioner General of Rehabilitation participated at this event along 200 ex-cmbatants who are currently undergoing the rehabilitation programme.
