Inauguration of Training & Rehabilitation Centre Construction Project in Kaithady

Hon. Chandrasiri Gajadeera Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform formally handed over (January 29, 2012) to Major General Chandana Rajaguru, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, a plot of land situated in Kaithady which has been earmarked for the establishment of a new Training & Rehabilitation Centre. The proposed Centre will provide further training to Ex-combatants who have been re-integrated into society following their successful completion of the rehabilitation program conducted by the BCGR.

Following the handing over of the plot of land and unveiling of the commemorative plaque marking the inauguration of the Project, the Hon. Minister studied the construction site map and its location. The Officer in charge of the Thellipplai Centre Major NCR De Silva briefed the Hon. Minister on the facilities that would be available in the proposed centre.

The Minister exchanged views with the trainees from rehabilitation centres in Vauniya who were present on the occasion. He observed that the active participation and collaboration of the trainees were vital for the success of the rehabilitation programme and added that the proposed centre would be of greater help for their future training needs.

Secretary of the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform Mr. A. Dissanayake, Jaffna Member of Parliament Mr. M. Chandrakumar and the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Chandana Rajaguru were present on the occasion.
