Special Events to mark the Day Designated for the Ministry of Rehabilitation & Prison Reforms at the Deyata Kirula Exhibition 2012

Special events were organized to focus attention on the activities of the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform on February 8th, 2012, the day designated for the Ministry.

The main highlight was the reintegration of 42 ex-combatants ( 36 Males and 6 Females) with their families following the completion of the rehabilitation program. Among the other events marking the day was the musical performance by the band “Friends of Peace” consisting of specially selected ex-combatants who have been trained in vocal and instrumental music. The event which was held at the mega stage at the exhibition grounds drew a huge and appreciative audience.

Female and Male dance troupes consisting of ex-combatants also gave a public performance for the first time at the same venue. Dance troupe consisting of prisoners also staged a enthralling performance on this occasion. The dance and musical performance was a resounding success and provided an excellent opportunity for ex-combatants to display their talents at a national event of this scale.

Attending the performances were the Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform Hon. Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Hon.S M Chandrasena, Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Hon. W. B. Ekanayake, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Chandana Rajaguru and several other Government officials.
