On the second day of the Up-country tour

On the second day, March 11, the group set off from Badulla for a sight seeing tour of Nuwara Eliya and Hakgala Gardens which lasted more than 2 hours. Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms, Hon.Chandrasiri Gajadheera and the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation joined the group in the 2nd day’s program. All tour participants posed for a group photograph to serve as souvenir of their memorable visit.

The group enjoyed a picnic lunch seated on the banks of Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya, well-known for its scenic beauty.

After lunch, the group resumed their journey heading for the Gampola town. Before reaching their destination, the convoy of buses made a diversion heading towards the Ambuluwawa Hill. At the end of a long and tiring journey, a pleasant surprise awaited the visitors. None other than the Hon. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne was waiting there to welcome them warmly. He joined the group participating in the rituals held at the Hindu Kovil. Thereafter the Prime Minister hosted the visitors to tea and refreshments.

The group spent the night at the Youth Council Centre in Gampola, where the musical group ‘Friends of Peace’ gave an enthralling cultural and musical performance. The Chief Minister of the Central Province, Mr. Sarath Ekanayake and Secretary to the Ministry of Rehabilitation Mr. A. Disanayake also joined the trainees during the 2nd day of their tour.
