107 Rehabilitated Former LTTE Cadres were Released

Another 107 rehabilitated Ex Combatants were reintegrated to the society on 9th September 2013 at a function held in Cultural Hall Municipal Council Vavuniya. Hon. D.E.W. Gunasekara, Senior Minister Human Resource Affairs, on an invitation extended by Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms grace the occasion. Mr. G.S. Withanage Secretary to the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms, GA Vavuniya Mr. Bandula Harischandra and Major General KJ Wijetilleke RWP USP Commissioner General of Rehabilitation were present at the occasion.

75 Ex combatants who were rehabilitated at the Welikanda rehabilitation Centre, and 32 former carders rehabilitated at the Poonthottam Centre in Vavuniya, were among those who were released after successful completion of their Rehabilitation Process.

These Rehabilitees were formally handed over to their NOK's and will have the privilege to live a peaceful life and enjoy the dividends of peace brought to these areas at the end of Humanitarian operation in May 2009. Much needed material and financial assistance also offered by the Government in order to uplift the livelihood standards of these beneficiaries.

During the Ceremony, a cultural show was organized by the 'Friends of Peace' musical group which consist of rehabilitees, and was an eye-catching event.
