Community Awareness Programme on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking falls on 26th June every year. As a Drug addiction rehabilitating organization, the day is very special to celebrate in order to aware the general public to prevent from drug abuse.

In keeping with International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,a concept introduced by HE the president, a month long programme was announced with the views of awareness of drug abuse and illicit trafficking specially focusing on school children and educating the public on negative effects of drug use.

Poster campaigns, a wide coverage over state/ private media, Drug prevention walks, silent protests etc were planned for the month. This was a coordinated effort by all agencies involved in the field of drug abuse prevention.

BCGR also made an endeavour to add colour to these events by organising to distribute leaflets and conducting a silent campaign. Leaflets were distributed at railway station Pettah and Secretariat Office railway station by BCGR staff. The leaflets contained the negative impacts of using drugs and advices for parents to identify changes in children's behaviour to protect them from drug abuse. A silent picketing by staff at BCGR Colombo was held at Rajagiriya in front of Keels Supermarket.
