Govt to move courts against over 700 Tiger suspects

The government is in the process of taking legal action against 703 ex-LTTE combatants detained at Omanthai. Sources say among the detainees are those who commanded theLTTE fighting units as well as those attached to special formations, including intelligence.

Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe told The Island that the police were conducting investigations. The Brigadier said that the detainees were no longer part of the rehabilitation process.

The majority of the LTTE leadership died on the Vanni front after the Army captured Kilinochchi in January 2009. (SF)
